Hello, Salaam, Shalom, Bonjour, Bom Dia, & Hola from Virginia! I am thrilled to have just joined Taking it Global! I had interacted with GYAN for sometime a few years ago before taking maternity leave, but TIG is even better. It's truly inspiring to see so many young people getting involved and taking action on issues that they are passionate about.
For a few years now, I've been working to promote peace at the Global Youth Village international summer program. Our 2011 program promises to be another fantastic one. This summer, we will welcome over 100 young people from Iraq, Indonesia, Nigeria, and France, and all over the United States, as well as other countries to engage in a cross-cultural experience that is sure to be life-changing experience. The program basically promotes the idea of living your life as a peace builder, as a social innovator and as a global citizen. Youth explore customs, traditions and hardships of their peers around the world. The outcome is so positive: young people develop a deeper sense of self-confidence, communication and leadership skills and an expansive world view. This year we will feature dynamic workshops in peace building & conflict resolution/dialogue, environmental action, global music and dance. During the past 32 years, the program has trained over 3,000 young people from 105 different countries. In a nutshell, we give youth the tools to truly take it global!
